Hoodoo Basics: A Guide To Making Your Ancestral Altar
Hi my loves! I hope you are enjoying your day. Here is a simple guide to creating your own ancestral altar! As always, if you aren’t black don’t practice.
When designing your altar, think about where, why and how you will set it up! Make sure to have a white cloth placed on the table where you will set up your altar. Intuitively place your curios and the heart of your altar where you see fit. Make sure when working on your altar, that you are envisioning what it will be used for. Once finished, say a prayer for the intentions of the altar and/or write a petition paper.
Once completed, prayed over and set up you can start doing workings!
Altar Locations: away from your bed and out of your closet, in your office space, living room or kitchen.
Heart of the Altar: one large glass of water or nine glasses, photos of your ancestors (if you only have a few that’s okay!)
Curios: ancestor trinkets such as jewelry, items relating to your culture, colognes and perfumes, personal interests
Make sure to add a representation of each of the four elements to your altar as well! Earth, Fire, Water & Air
Air: Incense (Dragon’s Blood can especially be potent!)
Earth: Graveyard Dirt, Crystals & Food
Water: Water
Fire: Candles
Make sure you create this altar with love. Leave it up as long as you desire!
